Appropriate Adult Policy

This Appropriate Adult Policy has been designed for children's homes and supported accommodation to support full compliance with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the associated Children’s Homes Quality Standards

The policy provides clear, practical guidance for staff on identifying when an Appropriate Adult is required, securing appropriate support without delay, and ensuring young people under 18 receive independent assistance during police detention or interview.

The policy outlines who may and may not act as an Appropriate Adult, core rights of detained young people, preparations for attending the police station, key stages requiring attendance, responsibilities of the Appropriate Adult, and the registered manager’s duties.
