Management of Critical Events Policy
This Management of Critical Events Policy has been designed for children’s homes to support full compliance with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the associated Children’s Homes Quality Standards.
The policy provides clear, practical guidance for staff and managers on identifying, responding to and managing critical events that may impact the safety and wellbeing of children, young people, staff or the service. It outlines the escalation process, roles and responsibilities, communication procedures, and recording requirements to ensure a coordinated and timely response. The policy emphasises safeguarding, staff support, debriefing, learning from incidents, and ensuring that appropriate action is taken to reduce risk and restore safety as quickly as possible.
These documents are guidance only and must be adapted to reflect each home’s individual practices. Providers are responsible for ensuring ongoing compliance with legislation, regulations, and Ofsted expectations.
