Handover Procedure Policy

This Handover Procedure Policy has been designed for children’s homes to support full compliance with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the associated Children’s Homes Quality Standards.

The policy provides clear, practical guidance for staff on effective handover procedures between shifts, ensuring continuity of care, safety and consistent support for children and young people. It outlines expectations for accurate and timely information sharing, recording of key incidents, risk management, care needs, medication, appointments and any safeguarding concerns. The policy emphasises professionalism, confidentiality, accountability and clear communication to ensure that all staff have the information needed to provide high-quality care and maintain the wellbeing of children and young people.
