Manual Handling Policy
This Manual Handling Policy has been designed to support full compliance with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, the associated Children’s Homes Quality Standards, and relevant health and safety legislation.
The policy provides clear, practical guidance for staff on safe manual handling techniques to prevent injury and ensure the wellbeing of both staff and children/young people. It outlines procedures for risk assessment, moving and handling of children, use of equipment, and situations where specialist support is required. The policy emphasises training, competence, individualised care planning, and adherence to safe systems of work, while ensuring dignity, safeguarding and minimising risk in all handling activities.
These documents are guidance only and must be adapted to reflect each home’s individual practices. Providers are responsible for ensuring ongoing compliance with legislation, regulations, and Ofsted expectations.
