Medication Policy
This Medication Policy has been designed to support full compliance with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the associated Children’s Homes Quality Standards.
The policy provides clear, practical guidance for staff on the safe management, administration, storage and disposal of medication, ensuring children and young people receive the correct medication at the right time. It outlines procedures for obtaining consent, maintaining accurate records, handling controlled drugs, supporting self-administration where appropriate, and responding to missed or incorrect doses. The policy emphasises safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality, and the importance of staff training, competency and ongoing monitoring to protect the wellbeing of children and young people.
These documents are guidance only and must be adapted to reflect each home’s individual practices. Providers are responsible for ensuring ongoing compliance with legislation, regulations, and Ofsted expectations.
