Role of the Responsible Individual Policy
This Role of the Responsible Individual Policy has been designed for children’s homes to support full compliance with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the associated Children’s Homes Quality Standards.
The policy provides clear, practical guidance on the responsibilities, duties and expectations of the Responsible Individual (RI) in ensuring high-quality care and safeguarding within the service. It outlines the RI’s role in providing leadership, oversight, and accountability for the home’s operation, including monitoring standards, ensuring compliance, supporting staff, and promoting positive outcomes for children and young people. The policy also sets out the RI’s responsibilities for ensuring effective governance, risk management, and communication with Ofsted, local authorities and other relevant stakeholders.
These documents are guidance only and must be adapted to reflect each home’s individual practices. Providers are responsible for ensuring ongoing compliance with legislation, regulations, and Ofsted expectations.
